With a new Indo-Pakistan War in motion over Kashmir, Sky News Australia this morning did something interesting. It employed the resources of (the differently owned) Sky News UK to explain how these two countries came into dispute, with a video by UK’s National Correspondent Alex Rossi. Thing is they’ve never done this with the current Arab-Israeli War. No media outlet has, but why? The answer comes with Rossi’s approach below.

So, they cut to Rossi doing a pre-recorded studio stand-up, backed by one of those huge floor-to-ceiling screens for dramatic effect. And despite decades of contemporary warfare in the region, Rossi proceeded to give viewers a History of the Subcontinent 101.
It’s as if most of us in the West have no idea how two billion humans came to be where they are today—which is largely true; whereas we obviously know how mere millions came to be in Israel and the Occupied Territories—which is largely false. It does however validate the mainstream media’s meme: Israel bad, everyone else good which is the main thing.
Rossi started by saying that that the conflict between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, “has shaped South Asian geopolitics for more than seven decades.” Well, so has the conflict between Israel and the Arab world in the Middle East over Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank.
He said, “the struggle over the territory has led to multiple wars.” Ditto Israel and the Arab world.
“The area is now one of the most militarised in the world.” The Middle East has been the world’s most lucrative military testing ground since World War Two.
Then we get to details. Rossi said, “Let’s rewind to 1947 … when Britain partitioned its former colony.” You mean like the time in 1947 when Britain also sought to partition its British Mandate into a separate Jewish and Arab state?
“Pakistan with a Muslim majority was created in the west, and India with a mostly Hindu population in the east,” just like Palestine with a Muslim population and Israel with a Jewish population was too.
Hold on! Then where is Palestine today? Why doesn’t Palestine exist like Pakistan?
Rossi said, “War quickly followed in October. The Hindu ruler of the Muslim majority in Jammu and Kashmir originally sought to remain independent. But when Pakistani militants (note that word) invaded Kashmir, he appealed for Indian military help.” You mean, like when the Arabs turned down their own Palestine and instead invaded Israel employing complete Arab armies?
“The ensuing war lasted until an armistice was implemented on the 1st of January 1949, splitting Kashmir into two parts. Tensions continued though with a second Indo-Pakistan War in 1965, again over a border dispute.”
Yes, a similar armistice was reached between Israel and the Arab world in 1949. Tensions then grew as Egypt’s President Nasser prepared the Arab World to invade Israel again in 1967 and lost—and Egypt’s President Sadat did so again invading in 1973, and lost: followed by a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt and later with Jordan, both continuing to this day.
Rossi goes on to talk about Pakistani “militants” again, and acts of “terror” against India—much with the same media blasé over Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7 2023, and the subsequent war in the Gaza Strip.
And this is where we’ll stop because Rossi isn’t so independent when it comes to Islamists causing global wars.
Indeed, a quick search revealed that after the killing of Hamas’s leader Sinwar, Rossi gave a generous analysis of Sinwar’s meaning, in terms of Israel’s actions aimed at freeing its hostages taken by Hamas, their PIJ allies, and everyday Gazans under the aegis of UNRWA.
He’s quoted by the Jerusalem-based All Israel News:
“In essence, how the video of Yahya Sinwar is received reflects the deeply held and complex beliefs and views of the region. The old adage has never been truer: “One person’s freedom fighter is another person’s terrorist.”
So, Sinwar was the good guy, and Pakistan is fighting for freedom too?
Sky News Australia needs a more nuanced commentary about Kashmir, lest Islamist Extremism erupts against Hindus, as a discredited mainstream media has let happen against Jews.
The unfolding tension in Kashmir therefore, is not territorial. It is more dangerous than that.
It goes back to the ugly rampages of sheer murder experienced during the partition of the Subcontinent into India and Pakistan.
Kashmir is a Religious War—as is Gaza. As is Bangladesh.
Islamists hate Hindus, as Islamists hate Jews. And the tensions between these groups go back more than 77 years. They go back over a millennium.
By no coincidence then, are they also united by one other factor. Pakistan, India and Israel are all nuclear armed.
