I recall a moment just over three months ago with the release of the Harry Potter script “The Cursed Child” when something unique happened. It gave me so much joy.

I’ve yet to read Harry Potter, in fact a  large swag of my reading these next couple of months, plans itself in Jo Rowling’s hands and her septuplet story world.

It was the constant flood of global Tweets, day and night, as people waited in store lines, then announced their proud ownership of a new book—selfies and all.

What an amazing thing to witness. People were celebrating a book. As if the printing press had been reinvented. That in this globalised, dumbed-down media world ah! …The proletariat still craves to read. Would a revolution soon be at hand?

I think so, the franchise’s releases keep pumping out.

So I found a collection of heavily illustrated booklets today in a hardbound collection called the “Harry Potter: Cinematic Guide”. It’s a lightweight thing really but of utmost importance it had words too.

Should I buy it? Looking over Amazon I came across the most beautiful two sentence review by a proud father, Matthew Parrott, making me think I should. It simply read:

I bought this for my 7 year old daughter and she loves this book! She is in 2nd grade and able to read it on her own.

We now have fresh generations just like this girl growing up knowing what books mean. And I say, “Reports of reading’s  death are greatly exaggerated”.

Publishers, writers, illustrators, editors, proofreaders, printers, retailers all—let’s now treat these new story lovers with respect.
